The Fraunhofer IAP is one of the leading suppliers of applied cellulose and starch research. Our teams of research workers with chemists, physicists and processing engineers optimize the production, characterization and processing of polymers from renewable resources and develop new products on the basis of biopolymers.

Our product range includes cellulose derivatives for medical applications,
man-made cellulose fibers, foils and food packagings as well as applications of
starch in the non-food sector. Main focus areas are the development of new
starch derivatives, the application of the carbacell- and lyocell processes as
alternative technologies for the viscose process and the development of natural
fiber reinforced biocomposites. A funded molecular and supermolecular
characterization of the developed biopolymers and materials is a prerequisite for
their technical application. As specialists in this area we can offer many years'
experience and sophisticated measuring methods. Furthermore our competence includes
the characterization und testing of synthetic polymers.
