The research group Nanotechnology for Life Science is a joint research program between the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Polymer Research and the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces (Director: Prof. Helmut Möhwald). The mission of our research group is to develop polymer-based nanostructures (nanoparticles, micelles, vesicles, microgels) for medical applications. This activity responds to an enormous demand in the exploding markets of biotechnology (drug-delivery, controlled-release delivery, transdermal delivery, biomaterials). Our main philosophy is to create a bridge between innovative fundamental polymer material science and life science industry. Thus, we participate in fundamental research programs and use this knowledge to develop innovative systems with industrial partners for practical applications.
